A lovely summer in the ever so beautiful New England…. Part 1 The lighthouses.

This summer (summer of 2014) I was lucky enough to be provided with an opportunity to visit the east coast of the US for work. The assignment was a 4 month task and i was located near Boston (a small but lovely town called Acton) in Ma. Long before i ended up on the east cost, i had started to read up on where all can one go whence there… the list seems to be endless… but i still had to come up with a shortlist of places. So the first thiong i did was to look up where the various lighthouses are at 😀 . I am obsessed with lighthouses for some reason.. dunno why… but i just love em 🙂

So here is a collection of the various lighthouses i got to see…

Goat island light, Newport, Rhode Island
Goat island light, Newport RI

Beavertail light, Jamestown, Rhode Island
Beavertail light, Jamestown, RI

Bar harbour light, Bar harbour, Maine
Lighthouse, Bass Harbor

Highland Light, Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Gathering storms...

Pemaquid Point Light, Maine

Bass harbour light, Bass harbour, Maine
Bass harbour light...

Two lights lighthouse, Cape Elizabeth, Maine
The two light light house, cape elizabeth Maine

This is in  no way a complete list of the awsome lighthouses i could have gone and seen… but i just had the weekends and most not much of extra time…  so this is pretty much it:(

New England is indeed a great place to spend the summers at… I would have loved to be able to go back in the fall.. hopefully someday that opportunity will present itself.

Anyhow, Stay tuned for more from the trip…

The Sydney travels…

The Sydney harbor bridge from train station...
Promised long ago.. fulfilled now 🙂 Here are the pics form the Sydney trip we took in Jul ’13. Sydney harbor is indeed a beautiful place, both at night and in the day. Plentiful sunshine made the day even better… and that was in the peak of winters 😀
the snap above is a view of the harbor from the train station.

Up next is a panoramic view of the two icons of Sydney.. Opera house and the Sydney harbor bridge.

This photo has an interesting story and an anecdote 🙂
I had packed my light weight tripod for the trip.. after-all i had to get beautiful shots of the Sydney harbor at night… how could i miss those 😉
So we get to the park and i take out my tripod… set it up n all.. Next thing i try to mount my camera on it… and guess what.. the bracket on the camera is for my usual tripod… 😥
Well, i had to get those shots one way or another… so i found this lil wall at the waters edge.. its ends were tapered n not flat.. after a lot of camera acrobats i finally manage to get my camera stable and get a couple of shots needed for the panoramas n other shots. Its a success, gods must be happy on me 🙂
Come back home and realize the mounting bracket for the travel tripod is right in the top pocket of my bag… and so the story goes.
Now the anecote.. whatever happens.. happens for the greater good.. well is did here.. for me 😉 Had i had the tripod, i would have set it up somewhere safely on the walkway instead of dangling my camera right at the waters edge (that too on a tapered wall 😉 )… but i would have walked away with pretty std shots.. instead of these, which i somehow think came better.

Hut on the bridge…
ut on the bridge darling harbor sydney
This one came out quiet nice (according to yours truly 😀 )… Initially i had dismissed the shot to be too touristy n well.. std. But then in a creative bout of boredom lo and behold…

The three sisters…
the three sisters, blue mountains, sydney
Wonder where their heads are though 😉
Blue mountains national park.. a beautiful day trip (n probably tons more) close to Sydney. It has a lot more to offer than we could afford on a day trip though.
(Note to self… go back for more)

St Kilda Beach…

before you go “Wait..What.. how the… this aint Sydney.. you moron!!!”
I know 😛 but i just got a nice shot that i wanted to show off.. This is St Kilda beach in Melbourne. Really beautiful place to walk, dine n just about spend a nice evening at.

Thats all folks… Hope you had fun 🙂

The one that almost flew and more…

The one that almost flew and more...
Some great moments from the recent family trip down to Seaworld, San Diego. What an awesome place to spend a whole day at… plenty on fun for the whole family…
The opening shot is one of the killer whales at the Shamu show fully airborne during one of its acrobatic moments 🙂 For all the ones i manages to catch, there were plenty of even more amazing moments that i missed to capture just cus of the sheer thrill of the moment 😀

Next we headed over to the dolphin pond…. Boy did my lil one enjoy this 🙂 The dolphins were within reach and some kids even managed to touch them on a few occasions…

This one is of the dolphin almost reaching for the red ball 😉

The cameras rested for a long time after the dolphins 😦 Theres just so much to do out here. Dolphin and bird show, otters, turtle bay, sea lion show… I just forgot my cameras in the bag 😀

The final exhibit we checked out was the arctic expedition… Awesome setup this is… lovely views of the walrus, beluga whale and our personal favorite… the Polar Bear 🙂

Here he is after getting rid of all the cold water fresh out of a swim 🙂

Amidst all our runarounds at Seaworld, one thing does need a honorable mention… The tower.
Not just is it a great ride, it also helped immensely in guiding us to and from the various shows/ehibits 😉

Someday… i’ll get it too…

Someday... i'll get it too...

Getting a beautiful star studded night scene has been a long time dream of mine… Seems im not done yet… I wanted to get a beautiful night scene with the Milky Way taking up the most of the sky. I seem to have a long way to go 😦

Here’s another one from this shoot…
img_0358-edit (1500x972)

I thought i was ready… i had scouted the location (well, i have taken multiple sunsets at the Natural Bridges beach in santa cruz…) and was ready with my tripod at sundown… Remote (wired) shutter release inserted into the camera and the lens focused on infinity… As the sun set and the stars began to pop up i fired away… one long exposure after another. The pics did show stars but i seem to have lucked out when it came to getting the milkey way…
The closest I have ever come was this shot (again in santa cruz) back in 2011…

Aaah… anyways, i am not done yet… another day will end and another night will come… I hopefully will get the ever elusive (in my case anyways 😉 ) milky way some day… 😀

Tons of thanks to my wife and kid for the immense patience they showed couped up in the car while i snapped away like a mad man… Thanks guys 🙂
